Typewise Bets on Orchestrated AI Agents to Double Customer Service Productivity at Fortune 500 Scale
Typewise, a Y Combinator Summer 2022 company, has spent the last several years building an answer to one of the hardest problems in enterprise AI: getting customer service right in production. Brand voice, safety, compliance, system integrations, and the sheer variety of customer intent all conspire against generic copilots. Typewise has built an AI-first customer service platform where orchestrated agents resolve requests end-to-end by taking real actions across a company’s stack.
Founded in 2020 and based in Zurich, Switzerland, Typewise pitches itself as boosting customer service and sales productivity by two to three times, and the company has the reference customers to back up the ambition. Fortune 500 brands including Unilever and DPD use the platform to cut support effort by more than 50% while measurably improving CSAT and NPS. The platform’s orchestration model allows support leaders to describe outcomes in natural language, “refund orders that arrived more than three days late and issue a 10% voucher,” and have the system compile them into working automations without flowcharts or code. Teams can simulate changes safely and roll them out incrementally, which matters enormously in environments where a bad automation can create regulatory exposure in hours.
Under the hood, Typewise integrates with more than 200 business systems, reading from and writing to CRM, ERP, helpdesk, and e-commerce platforms to actually resolve cases rather than just draft replies. Hybrid intelligence features let humans stay in the loop where they add the most value: partial hand-offs, review-before-send, and context-preserving resumption mean an agent-human collaboration feels seamless rather than clunky. A company-specific language model tuned on each customer’s data keeps the voice consistent, and the infrastructure is EU-hosted and ISO 27001 certified, which removes a common blocker for European enterprise buyers.
The company was founded by David Eberle and Janis Berneker. Eberle, the CEO, spent his early career as an Engagement Manager at Booz and Company, living in more than seven countries in the process. Berneker, the CTO, previously led data science at Swiss National Broadcaster SRF and speaks five-plus languages, useful for a product built to serve multinational customer bases. Typewise famously pivoted into B2B productivity after an initial consumer typing-assistant product, a story covered by TechCrunch and credited as part of why the team ultimately got into Y Combinator’s Summer 2022 batch. The company was also highlighted among “7 AI startups that stood out” from that cohort.
Typewise has grown to a team of over 20 and is hiring for roles including Product Designer and AI Engineer. That posture, small, deliberate, heavily senior, reflects a company that is pursuing quality of revenue rather than vanity growth. The contracts are long, the integrations are deep, and the displacement of incumbent outsourced BPO spend is exactly the kind of long-tail budget that enterprise AI companies need to unlock.
The customer service software market has been around for decades and has never stopped growing, but most of the software sold into it still treats agents as keystroke factories rather than orchestrators of outcomes. Typewise’s wager is that the next decade belongs to platforms that collapse ticketing, automation, and copilots into a single operating layer. The Fortune 500 logos suggest the wager is already paying off.
