Peoplebox.ai: An AI-Native Talent Platform for Modern HR

July 2026 · 3 min read

Peoplebox.ai is trying to do something most HR tech companies only gesture at: rebuild the entire talent stack from the ground up around AI. Founded in 2018 by Abhinav Chugh and Alagu M, the San Francisco-based company joined Y Combinator’s Summer 2022 batch and has since grown into an AI-native platform used by more than 500 companies to hire, manage, and grow their people. At the center of the product is Nova, which Peoplebox positions as the world’s most human-like AI teammate for talent conversations.

What makes Nova distinctive is how deeply it reaches into the day-to-day of the talent lifecycle. Nova runs two-way voice and video pre-screen calls and first-round interviews, including coding rounds with advanced proctoring, check-ins, and assessments, all with a given company’s hiring context and rubrics built in. That level of integration blurs the line between an AI assistant and an actual member of a recruiting team, and it addresses one of the most acute pain points in modern HR: the top-of-funnel interview bottleneck that keeps good candidates waiting and mid-sized companies perpetually understaffed in recruiting.

Beyond hiring, Peoplebox.ai is building an AI-native continuous performance system. Instead of relying on forms, annual reviews, or manual updates, it pulls live signals from tools employees already use, such as Slack, Jira, CRM, calendars, and documentation platforms, to continuously build evidence-backed insights on goals, competencies, engagement, and performance. Managers receive prioritized coaching actions, while leaders get a live organizational view without the administrative overhead of traditional performance management.

The founding team brings deep operating and technical experience to the problem. Co-founder and CEO Abhinav Chugh is an IIT Delhi alum with prior roles at Practo and Amdocs, and he has shaped Peoplebox’s product strategy around the realities of scaling teams in fast-growing companies. Co-founder Alagu M leads product, technology, and customer experience, and his work has centered on making the platform feel cohesive from the perspective of the HR leaders who ultimately have to adopt and defend it internally. Together, they have built a 35-person team spanning product, engineering, and go-to-market.

Peoplebox.ai’s focus areas, SaaS, B2B, recruiting, HR tech, and AI, only hint at the breadth of what the platform is becoming. With AI transforming every stage of the talent lifecycle, from sourcing and screening to performance and retention, the company is positioned in one of the most contested but highest-value categories in enterprise software. Its traction with over 500 companies, including the uptake of Nova as a credible AI interviewer, suggests that customers are ready for a more integrated, AI-first approach to HR rather than another point tool. As boards and CEOs lean harder on HR leaders to do more with less, the argument for a platform like Peoplebox.ai gets stronger every quarter.
