Piggy Robotics Wants to Put a Humanoid in Every Home — at iPhone Prices

Piggy Robotics, a Y Combinator Fall 2025 company, is betting that the next great scaling law in robotics will not come from bigger motors or heavier actuators, but from rethinking the body itself. The startup is building humanoid robots designed to fold your laundry, load your dishwasher, and tidy up the kitchen — at a price point the company benchmarks against a smartphone rather than a luxury car. Ambitious, physics-first, and unapologetically mass-market, Piggy Robotics is rethinking what it takes to get humanoids out of the lab and into living rooms.

Founded in 2024 and based in Mountain View, California, by co-founders Richard Gong and Chenny (Qianyi) Deng, the 15-person team is already prototyping a design that trades the industry’s expensive, slow-to-assemble electric motors for something radically simpler: artificial muscles.

The core insight driving Piggy Robotics is borrowed from the self-driving playbook. Autonomous cars became viable because millions of vehicles produced real-world data at scale; general-purpose robotics, the founders argue, will need a similar fleet. Today’s humanoid companies can only manufacture a few hundred units a year because their actuators are costly and labor-intensive to assemble. Piggy’s answer is a pneumatic architecture where each muscle is a tube wrapped in braided fibre, and the entire robot is powered by a single pump. That design choice collapses the bill of materials, simplifies assembly, and — crucially — unlocks the kind of throughput needed to flood the market with data-generating units from day one.

The company positions itself squarely at the intersection of several hot categories on its YC profile, spanning artificial intelligence, smart home assistants, robotics, and home automation. It is a deliberately consumer-first pitch in a space that has, to date, chased warehouses, factories, and defense contracts. If the humanoid industry has been optimizing for the prestige customer, Piggy Robotics is aiming at the billion-household opportunity hiding underneath it — the household chore economy that has resisted automation despite decades of attempts. A cheap, reliable humanoid that can reliably do a handful of domestic tasks would open a market that dishwashers, robot vacuums, and smart speakers have only scratched.

Gong and Deng bring an engineering-driven approach to what has historically been a capital-intensive category. Rather than scale up premium hardware, their strategy is to compress unit economics first and let data accumulation drive capability. It is a bet that mirrors what happened in consumer electronics: when the manufacturing cost curve breaks, software and intelligence follow. With artificial muscles as the mechanical substrate and a single-pump power system at the core, Piggy Robotics is engineering for mass production from the first prototype — a notable departure from competitors who often build a hero unit first and figure out manufacturing later.
